Last Saturday, Paloma Sjahrir Foundation had the pleasure to participate as a knowledge partner in TSX 2024, a dynamic talk show, art, and music festival centered on sustainability, hosted by TS Media at Senayan Park, Jakarta, on October 5th 2024.
TSX moved beyond conversations about sustainability and focused on actionable steps to incorporate more sustainable practices into daily life. Through thought-provoking discussions, immersive visual installations, and booths showcasing innovative solutions, the event brought the urgency of climate action to a wider audience, especially Gen Z and Millennials. This event builds on last year’s “Paloma’s Friends: Langkah Membumi Networking Brunch,” which united Key Opinion Leaders with a shared passion for championing environmental causes.
A standout moment of the day was the Sustainable Fashion talk show session, which filled the venue with attendees eager to learn from industry experts:
🎓 Dino Augusto, Fashion Scholar and Educator, introduced Lazarovic’s “Buyerarchy of Needs” concept, encouraging people to start by using what they already have, then borrow, swap, or thrift. He stressed that buying new should be the last resort, and real style is about confidence and self-expression, not consumption. His advice: focus on longevity and wear your clothes at least 300 times before considering something new
đź‘— Gema Minang, Co-Lead of Setali Indonesia, showcased her upcycled, thrifted outfit and discussed how her studies in the UK regarding corporate social responsibility led her to question fast fashion. She began embracing more sustainable fashion choices, became active in encouraging sustainable fashion through Setali, and recommended the audience make the shift gradually, starting with small changes like buying from thrift shops.
♻️ Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano, Founder and CEO of Waste4Change, explained the complexities of textile waste recycling. He noted that materials must be sorted by type, and improper waste management in Indonesia—such as clothing stained by food—makes recycling even harder. He also shared that even if we stopped producing clothes today, there would be enough garments on Earth to clothe the next generations.
TSX 2024 was a zero-waste-to-landfill event, and it succeeded in broadening the conversation around sustainability, reaching beyond environmental enthusiasts to a larger, more diverse audience.
Kudos to TS Media for bringing sustainability to the forefront in such a creative and engaging way. This event was not just a discussion—it was a call to action. Let’s keep pushing for change and embracing a more sustainable, thoughtful future.
