Ray Janson Radio F&B Industry Night

The start of a new year is a perfect time to reflect on moments of hope and progress. One such moment for Indonesia’s F&B community took place on December 16 at Industry Night, hosted by Ray Janson Radio at Urban Forest Cipete. More than a celebration of Indonesia’s vibrant culinary scene, the event was a call to action to create ripples of positive change across the F&B industry.

Paloma Sjahrir Foundation was proud to support this meaningful gathering, reinforcing its commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the F&B sector. Thanks to a collaboration with Ray Janson Radio and Waste4Change, the event achieved Zero Waste to Landfill status, showcasing how intentional efforts can drive real change.

The F&B industry plays a critical role in environmental sustainability, contributing to one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions and 70% of freshwater use. In Indonesia, 50% of landfill waste is organic, much of it food. These challenges make events like Industry Night all the more crucial. During her remarks, Ratna Kartadjoemena, Chairperson of Paloma Sjahrir Foundation, emphasized that sustainability solutions are increasingly more accessible for F&B players in Indonesia and that starting small can lead to meaningful progress.

During the event, Paloma Sjahrir Foundation spotlighted innovative solutions reshaping the F&B industry:

  • Surplus Indonesia: Rescues surplus food to reduce waste.
  • Kecipir and Common Grounds: Collects coffee grounds and eggshell waste for organic fertilizer production.
  • Boolet: Upcycles used chopsticks and skewers into creative products like furniture and sunglasses.
  • noovoleum: Purchases used cooking oil for sustainable aviation fuel production.

A big thank-you to chefs Freddie Salim, Don Chino, Wiem Kahyang Isha, Adhitia Pramana Julisiandi, and Wiro Gele Hydro for engaging with these ideas and turning sustainability into an exciting shared opportunity.

The positive energy of Industry Night reminds us of what’s possible when we unite for a shared purpose. Kudos to Ray Janson and the Ray Janson Radio team for curating such an uplifting and impactful event.

As we move forward, the Paloma Sjahrir Foundation remains committed to supporting initiatives that integrate sustainability into business practices. Here’s to a Happy New Year, filled with collaboration, innovation, and lasting progress! 🌱
