Continuing our collaborative efforts in Sustainable F&B

Our efforts to connect sustainable solutions with F&B players continue to bear fruit. Following Paloma Sjahrir Foundation’s event on March 28, we’ve seen impactful partnerships emerge within the industry, driving positive change.

For one, the Ground2Grow organic fertilizer—made from spent coffee grounds and eggshell waste—has expanded its reach after its launch last July through a collaboration between Kecipir, Common Grounds, and Reka Selaras Alam. Paloma Sjahrir Foundation has been helping the Ground2Grow program connect with more partners, including Dough Lab, Kopi Kalyan, and the Jakarta Environmental Agency.

At the TAMANbrightspot event, which concluded in early August at Urban Forest Cipete Jakarta, the collaboration with Waste4Change continued to ensure responsible waste management. Not a single piece of waste went to the landfill.

“With guidance from Paloma Sjahrir Foundation, we worked closely with Brightspot to make this iconic event environmentally friendly by managing waste and achieving Zero Waste to Landfill. The process involved raising visitor awareness, waste sorting, and ensuring smooth logistics. This is a crucial step in educating the public at events like brightspotMALL and TAMANbrightspot about the importance of recycling.”
Stephanus Kenny Bara Kristanto, Head of Communications & Engagement, AcaraBaik, Waste4Change

Another exciting initiative at TAMANbrightspot was the sale of used cooking oil to noovoleum, an impact enterprise that will convert it into sustainable aviation fuel.

“It’s great to see an event in the heart of Jakarta that prioritizes environmental awareness! We hope to do more at future events, not only collaborating with food vendors but also educating the public about how their used cooking oil can be converted into cash. We aim to see sustainable solution providers work together towards a cleaner environment.”
Muhammad Daffa Putra, Community Engagement, noovoleum

Beyond the event, Noovoleum is collaborating with DORÉ’s Pancake & Co and Potato Head’s KAUM Jakarta to purchase used cooking oil from their restaurants.

TAMANbrightspot also featured a garden bench made from 25,000 used chopsticks, upcycled by Boolet, an impact enterprise focused on upcycling waste.

“From the beginning when we were invited (by Paloma Sjahrir Foundation) to be able to participate at the TAMANbrightspot event, of course we were very happy, and TAMANbrightspot is also known as an event that promotes creative and innovative goods.”
Denisa, Chief Marketing Officer, Boolet

Lastly, FoodCycle Indonesia partnered with Ginchoux and Common Grounds to manage food waste, converting it into feed for maggots, which then become chicken feed. The circular economy in action! FoodCycle also distributed their leftovers to orphanages.

These initiatives reflect our commitment to driving meaningful change within the industry and advancing a more sustainable future. Each collaboration brings us closer to a world where environmental responsibility is at the core of every event and business practice.
